Improving the site

Recommended Posts

So, we have a new home.  This is not a corporate site, it's run by a single person, me.  The site is nothing without all of the contributions made by all of you, and for this, I am grateful.  It is free now, and will always be free.  I've been doing this for a while, there is little to nothing to be made from running forums, that's not why I do it.

I set this site up initially to mirror a lot of what RW had, but we can do whatever we want, that's the beauty of it not being driven by a company.

If you have ideas of suggestions for how to make the site better, please let me know.  I'll do my best.

Do we want new sections for the forums / blogs?  Do we want to rename some, remove some...?

This is your site, please let me know how it will work best for you.

Not sure if it is me or is it not simple to just reply or comment on a posting, but is using the quote button the best or only way to reply? Just a bit confused by all the newness here.

If you want to reply to multiple posts in the same thread / blog, you can click the + symbol, then at the bottom right click the Quote button.  That a pretty neat option.

If you want to quote a specific single quote, you can click the Quote button at the bottom of the post you want to quote.

The easiest way to reply is simply click in the reply area and type your reply.

On the home page "off-topic " and "forums" are the two big categories. I have to go up to the menu button at the top right to get to blogs (which are of the most interest to me!) Any chance "blogs" could show up as a category on the home page? After all, the original Loop was a blogging site!

This an excellent suggestion.

Good point, there needs to be a reply button within each individual post so when we feel most impulsive, we can reply at exactly that moment.  Plus, who wants to scroll all the way down if you don't want to quote someone?

OK, I did two things.  Going to the main URL will now open the blogs.  I also added a feed of the recent blogs to the top of the forum listings.

Better?

Using an IPad Air and not sure it works the same, no way to right click. Is there an app?

Sorry, no app.  It's a responsive format and is supposed to configure itself to whatever device you are on.

Can you tell me what you are trying to right click for?  I don't have any i devices, so please explain like I'm a child.  I can ask the developers of the software how to do what you are trying to do.

Is an iPad Air a tablet?  I don't have a right click option on my tablet.  Honestly, I almost never right click on the site from my desktop.

Cliff, just wanted to post a quick thank you. You’ve created this thing very quickly. It’s loaded full of options and tools and is really easy and intuitive to use; especially from my phone. I can’t wait to play around with it on a pc. Also, thanks for integrating Reed’s suggestion, that was a great change. Also, thanks for being patient as we learn our way around our new home. Lots of us are still figuring out which switch turns on which light.

Thanks again!!!

I just thought of something - will this be considered a social network? If so, I won't be able to access it at work - my company blocks stuff like FB, Instagram, etc. - my participation will be severely reduced as I don't own a smarty-pants phone... Just wondering...

@meowmom, I don't think so.  That will be entirely up to your organization though.  I work in a hospital, we are very finicky about protecting patient data and bloc many site and many emails.  One thing we have going for us, we use a .org domain.  Less likely to get blocked, but you know know these days.

That gives me hope then! Just have to wait and see I guess - fingers crossed!!

And thank you for doing this - it really is wonderful of you!!!  :x

p.s - if you could possibly find an expoding weiner emoji, I know several people who would just be tickled pink... ;)

Is it just me? I don't see a place to click on a list of members. I can see the members who are online, and I can search members - but I'd just like to see who's registered and who hasn't. I feel like I might just be missing it, however.

Thanks so much for your hard work on this, Cliff!

I use a tablet, ditched the desktop for now. Will keep going as I have been, just need to get use to the format. Thanks for your attempts at helping.

And a dancing banana - that's the original Loop favorite!

Done.  Too big?

Nope, not you, there wasn't one.  There is now, it's listed under Browse.

We need to tweak the genres. I doubt that there will be many entries for "nutrition" or "weight loss." But a lot of entertaining bloops from the past wouldn't fit into any of those categories. "Miscellaneous" would cover a lot of them. But how about "ramblings" (for the philosophical stuff) or "NRR" for non-running-related content, or "Surveys/Contests" for bloops that aim to get people to respond with their own bloops (such as scavenger hunts). I generally like the format, but it doesn't entirely fit us yet.  Even so, it's a good start.

Yes to all of the above; I love those specific suggestions. Training, Miscellaneous, Ramblings, NRR, Surveys/Contests... basically 99% of my posts would be within these categories.
