I Struggle

BTW -- ocrunnergirl = fivestarks

Wondering if I should just have Cliff change me back to fivestarks. I like ocrunnergirl better because that's who I feel I am - a girl who grew up in Ocean City. Also belatedly I realized that it could stand for Obstacle Course (runner girl) but that was not intended.

____

My healing from the hamstring tear has been fraught with ups and downs.

One PT tells me I'm fine to do anything that doesn't hurt. The next tells me that I can only do 1 mile 3 times a week. <== I kicked that one to the curb.

I finished my 12 sessions of PT, but they recommended another 12 sessions. I'm calling it graduate school. I'm actually not struggling with this. If they want to point out my weaknesses and tell me how to fix them I'm all for it!

I've started a very loose Higdon beginners plan to get me to be able to finish the Rehoboth 1/2. I started it late because who knew December was less than 12 weeks away?? I struggle with how many races I've DNS'd.

First week called for running 15 miles total. I ran 6.1 of those miles. Ellipticaled, stairclimbed and rowed the other ones. I struggle with being smart.

It seems not all of my speed has left me. I managed an 8:44 mile one day when running alternating light posts fast and slow.

Two days ago I ran 4 at the park where I tore my hamstring. I wanted to be fast. I wasn't. I was in between and it didn't feel good. I struggle with remembering my paces and # of miles last year.

I had my 1st session of Graduate PT yesterday. I told the PT about some pain in my hamstring. He graston'ed a little and said he felt it was just from my leg not being used to running. Thought I was okay to keep running - smaller steps, Chi running.

My friend called and asked if I wanted to do a short run. Before PT I would've said no. I taped my leg and we ran a glorious 2 miles. It was slow. We chatted. It was perfect.

I have so many hopes and dreams, but right now I don't know what to do with them.

My strength is at an all time high due to cross training. As long as I can keep my running progressing I feel I could run a great Obstacle Course race. I'm signed up for one Dec. 9th, but with my friends and family. So a fun run. I could sign up for one in North Jersey in November but it's hilly and hills are not my hamstring's friend right now. I'm not willing to have another setback. I struggle with being too competitive.

There's a marathon in Vegas in April of next year that I'd love to sign up for - Revel Mt. Charleston. I'm in no position to think about signing up for anything other than a 5k right now.

With the Loop shutting down it was painful to walk down memory lane and see how fast I was and how far I had come. I struggle with feeling like I will never return to that.

The PTs keep telling me I may look young but my muscles are those of a 50 year old. I also found out I have flat feet and should be wearing orthotics. Seriously? :S I struggle with getting old.

I struggle with all of these being FWP.

OC means Orange County to me. I struggle with remembering your new name is you. But that's an easy obstacle to overcome. Good luck with all the stuff you're dealing with and please continue being smart! <3

Around here OC means Orange County, so your name always confuses me. "She's not from Orange county"...

Vegas in April....hmmmm.

Keep healing. You'll be back to your badass self before you know it.

I like either identity. Since I also know you as OCRG in Instagram, it's an easy transition for me. And I love love love the new profile pic.

I've been running again for a few weeks now and - OMG! - I feel slow and awkward and really is it only a few months ago I was busting out tempo miles two minutes faster than this?

The hopes are dreams just need a slight timing adjustment. You'll be fine.

The runner formerly known as fivestarks. Always evolving. That's a good thing.

Sorry this ham thing has gone on so long. You will get past it.

Occasional crossfitting runner girl?

Sorry the hammy is taking forever. You're being smart doing other things to keep strength and fitness up, will help a lot with the comeback.

And if you're looking for spring race ideas...The Wife is strongly considering making a BQ run at the NJ Marathon in May, depending on how Chicago goes. Just saying.

You will come back stronger than you were before the injury.  So many of us have. Sadly, it takes much longer than any of us wanted it to take. I can get used to ocrunnergirl.  It has a nice ring to it.

As you know, I could have written this post...other than the thing about an obstacle course and a marathon in Vegas.  :)  I constantly struggle with how much speed and endurance I have lost over the course of the last year...wondering if I can ever get back to it...especially that I am now, GULP, eligible for AARP.

With all the talk of Wineglass (which is on my bucket list), I am thinking of maybe making that my next marathon....

Why not strive to be the best version of you possible instead of looking back wishing you were younger and faster?  I’m glad you’re on the mend and running some miles!

Keep 4/28 in mind. I'd love to run a race out there and go to the Grand Canyon. We have flights right from Atlantic City so it's a good destination race area for me.

After seeing Peg and KRG PR like bosses this weekend it gives me hope that I can come back from this too.

I promise you, you will be stronger and faster when you come back once your body is ready.

Your BA PR this weekend gives me hope that I can bang out some intervals in the future.

I thought OC stood for obsessive/compulsive.  That's not you, is it?

Might be the best description of me yet!

I could definitely get behind running the 1/2 that's but that may be the same weekend as LV?

Isn't that AARP mail the worst? Adds insult to injury! And I really had no idea you were near the same age as me!

I'd be up for the 1/2 at Wineglass for sure!

Sadly that's the competitive part of me. I'm always going to try to be faster. It's my mind set.

I get that part as best I can as a non-competitive person.  Maybe a better way to put it is look at goal times for others in your age group that seem attainable.  Maybe that doesn't help.  I don't know. I just want you to be happy because you don't seem happy and I definitely know what that feels like.

The name doesn't fool me. Who else has a picture of themselves carrying a bucket? Keep getting stronger (do planks, even though they suck). You'll be fast again!

I waiver in and out of being happy/sad. At 3 1/2 months I'm kind of over this injury.

On the positive side I am able to run a bit now. 🙂 Slow n steady I suppose.

I'm working on the stronger thing for sure! Confession: I don't mind planks as much as the rest of you. 😏

Looks like it may be, April 29 next year.  Oh well, will let you know anyway and we'll see. I'd be doing the half if she decides to run it.
