Thoughts for the holiday season and a little NRR

Advice wanted!

I really miss not having a running event on the calendar. And I was mourning the fact that I probably won't have one there for a long while yet... until I remembered that autumn is the start of the holidays and therefore the wonky little local races that are perfectly acceptable to run/walk in. So how feasible do you think a Turkey Trot is for a 32wk pregnant lady? Good idea for motivation to keep me active or just asking to be disappointed again if I don't feel up to it by that point?

NRR:

I was talked into taking a weekly basic drawing class by a much more socially active friend and last night was the second class. I can't sing worth a dang or play any of the instruments that the band wanted so I took art classes all through middle and high school instead. That one hour a day was so awesome - we'd have periodic new projects and class discussions but for the most part, you could walk in, get your stuff, put your music in and work on your own for the whole class. Definitely a meditative practice. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I'd remembered from all those years ago!

Class 1: spheres, eyes, shading, value scale

"Homework": practice drawing an egg

Class 2: a seemingly aggressive jump to sketching a bust of Socrates.

The class is only 2hrs long and it drove me a little nuts to stop before this thing was finished. But it still was fun and at the end we lined all of the students' drawings up and discussed them. It's crazy how different people can be drawing the same exact thing and have them all look so different! This is mine next to my friend's, which I totally love because she made her Socrates look like an evil wizard on a Wanted poster, side-eye and all.

Of course you can run a turkey trot at 32 weeks! Just keep getting out there and doing what you can.

Love the drawings!

Baby's first turkey trot. You already have an entry for her (did I remember that right?) baby book.

And BTW, your drawings are really good.

I think you can totally do it. And, if you get to the point that you don't feel like you can, you have a totally legitimate reason not to do it. I mean, you AAAARRRREEEE growing Tinkbot 2.0!

32 weeks!  Wth?  How did that happen?

By the end of November it will be!

I had to do a little math to figure out the "how many weeks is 9 months and 32 is what portion of that...carry the one...minus the square root of niner..." so I have no idea about these matters. But other more qualified persons have said go for it, and I'd trust them.

Nice job on the drawings! My artistic ability peaked in kindergarten, so I'm always in awe of people who can make drawing of things that actually look like the things they're supposed to look like (to paraphrase Homer Simpson).

Yeah until it happened to me, I had no idea about weeks and whatnot. But it'll be almost 8 months so kinda pretty much at the end of things.

Thanks! I still struggle with portraits looking like the person I'm trying to draw but I'm proud of this one. Even though the "person" is just a cast.

Just trot it.

Fun art classes. My daughter turning 14 wants a painting party. My wife is thinking she can teach it ala Bob Ross.

I'm going to leave that suggestion up to the women of the group, but I can tell you, I know plenty of women that do that distance at the same time during their gestation period.   OOOOH, gestation!!!!

I've never grown a human, so I have absolutely no advice on what you may or may not feel like doing at 32 weeks. But I'm all about listening to your body in all things, so if you wanna do it, you should do it! You've been rocking the run/walk thing already, and if it's a nice relaxed local race, you should feel totally free to just go at whatever pace feels right to (both of) you. Plus, think of the adorable costume opportunities!

I'm totally in awe of anyone who can draw things that look like actual, real-life objects! That sounds like a fun reason to get out and be social for a couple hours a week, with the benefit of a mutual interest ice-breaker. Love your Socrates sketch!

I would totally do it. A few of my runner friends who were pregnant ran/walked through most of their pregnancies. You've been active and healthy before pregnancy, so you're not introducing your body to something foreign.

The drawings are beautiful!

Wow you've got a real talent there! I'd love to be able to draw...but it's even worse than my acting (which also became obvious at school!)

I cryptically mentioned this to DH and he sighed and said, "Yes, yes, I'll do it with you." WIN! Hahah I also thought of costume opportunities...

Thanks! It's more fun than I thought it'd be. <-- Usually what happens whenever I resist something, /eyeroll

Every pregnancy is different, but you should sign up and just do whatever feels good that day, even if it's walking just to have some time to yourself before a crazy holiday!  :-)
