Cliff Notes from Up North

I’ll do the best I can to not drone on forever.

1. Decided to run a marathon For the first time.

2. Signed up for Wineglass in Corning where all the awesomeness recently took place.

3. Trained through a 15 miler in spring

4. Realized I’m insane, I hate racing, always have hated racing, hate any mile over 13,  planned to drop to the half at Wineglass, can’t drop down - half is full, decided I’d still go and cheer, I’m good at cheering.

5.  Find house of my dreams, proceed to purchase it, issues complicated things, things get expensive, closing delayed, plan to close on race weekend, closing delayed to October 12, ran out of money, cancelled out of race completely.

6. Wallow in self pity and cry over not seeing friends and celebrating their awesomeness. Life goes on.

Other stuff:

Started Crossfit in May of this year and love it more than I’d ever imagine.  I run 3-4 days a week in addition to Crossfit and I’ve never in my life has this level of positive feeling about my body and how great it is. If you’ve met me you know I’m not a dainty framed woman.  I’m built to be strong and powerful but never thought I should because I was raised to think skinny is optimal even if you’re frail and sickly.  Screw that.  I can power through hills and distances like never before.  I’m still a slower runner but that’s my build. I’d rather be slower and powerful than starving myself to be someone else’s image of what a runner looks like to them.

This winter I hope to get many miles under my x-c skis since I have excellent trails just 10 minutes from my new house.

And I’m growing my natural curls out... never embraced my waves and curls in my hair before.

Thats the Cliff Notes version!

You've always struck me as a strong woman. Sorry you didn't get to wineglass. I'm sure a new house will make up for it! Pictures??

Oh & I love your curls!

Glad you found crossfit. If I ever join a gym, that would be my kind of place. Missed you at wineglass

Yay, Treegirl!  Bummer about wineglass, but new house, strength, power and curls puts the balance way into the positive column.  (As one with a head full of natural curls, I fully support the curl decision, they look great!)

Love those curls! Sorry wineglass didn't work out. I've always wanted to try x-c skiing (downhill would be the death of me), but we don't get anywhere close to enough snow around here.

Beautiful TreeGirl!  Sorry about the cancelled race due to life complications.  I love hearing from women who have learned to embrace and love their unique strengths and beauty.

Bummer about Wineglass -- Corning is really pretty, especially this time of year -- but yay for home ownership and new beginnings!

Things never go too smoothly when buying a new house. Hurray for curls! :) And I'm glad you're feeling great!

I LOVE your curls!!!  It took me a long time to embrace mine as well.

I'm so glad you have so many good things going on!!!  I need your new address after you close.

We need to start on other plans to meet.

As a straight-haired girl, I'd kill for curls... and yours are so pretty!

"I was raised to think skinny is optimal." OMG, yes. :( I love that you are embracing who you are and feeling strong and secure in that. LOVE IT.

What's wrong with being a slow runner?  And as a curly-haired girl, I get you.  Of course in the 90s when curly hair was big, mine was naturally straight so I had to get perms.  Now that straight hair is in, I have to straighten it.  Well, not anymore.  But you know.

Cross-fit.  That's awesome!!  That'll make you stronger for your next race!

TreeGirl Strong should be on a t-shirt.

I love big front porches on homes. Nice!

I just love that you are feeling so great about yourself! I don't know who puts silly body images into our heads but it's ridiculous that we chase after these crazy body images.

I'm sorry you didn't get to go to Wineglass. I was wondering what happened.

The house looks great!

It's great to see a bloop from you. Now that I've decided I want to run some more, I'll need you to message me and tell me how you find time to work, run, do CrossFit. I seriously need help figuring that out.

Strength is awesome. And I've found that the people who are confident are the most attractive no matter what they actually look like. Sorry about the complications with the house but at least it's going through, right? And there will be plenty of time for more Loopmeets!

Money is DUMB!  I love that you run for you and only you.  Racing is just one part of running that I use to stay committed.  In the meantime, doesn't Afton sound tasty for next year again (think of it as a chance to enjoy the scenery, not a race)?  Maybe Trace will come out and support as well :P.

That was a LONG drive but a gorgeous course.  I won't be driving that far again anytime soon unless it's for a new race.  Repeat races have to wait a couple years.  Budget will be tight so selection of where to run will be stingy at best!  Loved meeting you there though!

My brother is addicted to CrossFit.   For some reason, it scares me.  :)

It scared me at lot at first and still does now after almost 6 months but that's o.k.  The challenge is empowering!
